Join us for an unforgettable trip to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with our itinerary. Each day helps you adjust to the altitude, enjoy beautiful views, and have a rewarding hike. Here’s what to expect on your adventure:

1. Arrival and Briefing

Activity: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

Briefing: Meet your guide for a pre-trek briefing. They’ll explain the route, safety measures, and check your equipment to ensure you’re fully prepared.

2. Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Elevation: 2,250m to 2,650m

Distance: 6km | Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Activity: After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate (about 2 hours). Complete park registration and meet your porters. Begin the trek through lush rainforest, following a gentle trail.

Terrain: Dense rainforest with tall trees, moss-covered ground, and a cool, humid climate.

Highlights: Spot wildlife like colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and colorful birds. The rainforest is alive with sounds and scents, making it a magical start to your trek.

3. Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Elevation: 2,650m to 3,610m

Distance: 8km | Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Activity: Trek out of the rainforest and into the heather and moorland zones. The trail becomes steeper, offering your first real challenge.

Terrain: Transition from rainforest to open moorland with giant heather plants and rocky outcrops.

Highlights: Stunning views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak in the distance. The landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic.

4. Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

Elevation: 3,505m to 4,206m

Distance: 11 km | Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

Activity: Spend the day exploring the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on Earth. Trek to Shira 2 Camp, then divert to Moir Hut for the night.

Terrain: Open moorland with rocky terrain and sparse vegetation.

Highlights: The Shira Plateau offers stunning views and a unique sense of isolation. The trek to Moir Hut is less crowded, providing a peaceful experience.

5. Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 4,206m to 4,629m (Lava Tower), then down to 3,963m (Barranco Camp)

Distance: 7 km (to Lava Tower), then 3 km (to Barranco Camp)

Hiking Time: 4–5 hours (to Lava Tower), then 2–3 hours (to Barranco Camp)

Activity: Climb up a ridge and head southeast toward the Lava Tower, a 300-foot volcanic rock formation. Descend through the Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp.

Terrain: Alpine desert with rocky trails and dramatic landscapes.

Highlights: The Lava Tower is a fascinating geological feature, and the descent through the Senecio Forest is surreal and beautiful. This day is crucial for acclimatization.

6. Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,960m to 4,035m

Distance: 5km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Activity: Conquer the Barranco Wall, a fun and challenging scramble, then trek through valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp.

Terrain: Rocky trails with steep ascents and descents. The Barranco Wall is a highlight, requiring some scrambling but no technical climbing.

Highlights: Spectacular views of the Barranco Valley and Kibo Peak. The Barranco Wall is one of the most memorable parts of the trek.

7. Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 4,035m to 4,640m

Distance: 4km | Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Activity: Trek to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit push. Rest and prepare for the final ascent.

Terrain: Rocky and barren alpine desert. The trail is steep but short.

Highlights: Stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding glaciers. You’ll feel the excitement building as you prepare for summit night.

8. Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak), then descend to 3,080m

Distance: 17km | Hiking Time: 12–14 hours

Activity: Begin the summit push at midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Descend to Mweka Camp.

Terrain: Steep, rocky trails to the summit, followed by a long descent through scree and alpine desert.

Highlights: Witness the sunrise from the Roof of Africa and celebrate your achievement at Uhuru Peak. The descent is tough but rewarding as you reflect on your accomplishment.

9. Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Departure

Elevation: 3,080m to 1,640m

Distance: 10km | Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Activity: Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificates, and transfer back to your hotel.

Terrain: Dense rainforest with muddy trails. The descent is gentle but can be slippery.

Highlights: Celebrate your successful trek and enjoy a hot shower at the hotel. Reflect on your incredible journey and the memories you’ve made.
