Already in Zanzibar and wondering if you can fit a safari in? You can.
This joining day trip is designed for travelers based in Zanzibar who want a real Tanzania wildlife experience without leaving the island for multiple days. Fly to Mikumi in the morning, spend the day on a guided game drive in one of Tanzania’s most accessible parks, then fly back to Zanzibar the same afternoon.
Mikumi National Park is home to large elephant herds, lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and over 300 bird species. It is one of the best wildlife destinations in East Africa for a single-day visit.
Every Mikumi Holiday Safaris trip is tailored to your personal preferences and interests. Below you’ll find a sample itinerary to inspire your own custom-designed journey.
Depart Zanzibar Airport between 7:30 and 8:00 AM for the short flight to Mikumi. Arrive at the park airstrip by 9:00 AM and begin your guided game drive immediately. Spend the morning exploring the Mkata Plains with high chances of spotting elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, hippos, and a wide variety of birds.
A lunch break is scheduled from 12:30 to 1:30 PM inside the park. After lunch, continue with your afternoon game drive for more wildlife viewing and photography across the savannah. At 3:00 PM, transfer to the Mikumi National Park airstrip for your return flight to Zanzibar, arriving back between 4:30 and 5:00 PM.
