Overview

This safari starts and ends in Dar es Salaam, taking you deep into Nyerere National Park, one of Africa’s largest protected areas and home to some of Tanzania’s most diverse wildlife.

The tour uses quality mid-range safari lodges or tented camps located inside or close to the park. It includes road transport from Dar es Salaam, private game drives, a boat safari on the Rufiji River, and an optional walking safari with an armed ranger on your final morning. This is a proper wilderness experience for travelers who want more than just a game drive.

1. Dar Es Salaam - Nyerere National Park (Selous)

Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam, the airport, or the ferry station, depending on your arrival time. If you are arriving by hotel transfer, the driver will collect you at 7:20 AM for a 5-6 hour drive to Nyerere National Park. Upon arrival, you will check in to your hotel and enjoy a delicious hot lunch.

Later, you can look forward to a boat safari on the Rufiji River, where you will have the opportunity to see hippos and crocodiles as you take in the sunset, as well as elephants drinking in the evening.

2. Nyerere National Park

Meet our professional safari guide at 7:00 AM at your hotel for a full-day safari experience. Discover wildlife such as elephants, lions, wildebeest, giraffes, and over 300 species of birds in Nyerere National Park. Enjoy a beautiful sunset before returning to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

3. Walking Safari and Drop Off Dar Es Salaam

Wake up at 6:30 AM for an early morning walking safari led by an experienced bushman and armed ranger. Learn to read animal tracks, identify plants, and experience the bush on foot in a way no game drive can replicate. A beautiful sunrise and excellent birdwatching make this a memorable final morning.

Return to your accommodation around 8:30 AM for breakfast before the drive back to Dar es Salaam.
