1. Zanzibar → Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Depart Zanzibar by morning flight/ferry to Dar es Salaam. Journey west through rural Tanzania to the biodiverse Udzungwa Mountains, a UNESCO-listed wilderness often compared to the Galapagos for its unique species. After lunch, embark on a guided hike through lush rainforest to Sanje Waterfall, where you might spot:

  • The endangered Iringa red colobus monkey
  • Endemic Udzungwa partridges
  • Over 400 plant species found nowhere else

Enjoy a picnic by the cascades before overnighting at a nearby lodge, listening to the sounds of the mountain forest.

2. Udzungwa → Mikumi National Park

After breakfast, travel to Mikumi National Park, Tanzania’s fourth-largest protected area. The Mkata Floodplain dominates the landscape, offering exceptional game viewing:

  • Large herds of eland (Africa’s largest antelope)
  • Lion prides patrolling the grasslands
  • Giraffes silhouetted against baobab trees
    Afternoon game drive reveals buffalo herds, zebras, and over 400 bird species. Sunset drinks at your lodge overlook the floodplain.

3. Mikumi National Park → Zanzibar

Dawn game drive catches predators at their most active. Search for:

  • Leopards in acacia woodlands
  • Hippos in the Mkata River

    Return to Dar es Salaam after lunch for your flight/ferry to Zanzibar, arriving by evening.
